My Dearest,

CW: Mental Illness

My Dearest, is a new dance-based piece written by Emma Hawkins and Felix Westcott, with original score by Will Harmer. The story follows the inner dialogue of a person with schizophrenia and the relationship between them and their loved one, as they become physically and mentally estranged. The script has been developed as a collaboration amongst writer, actor, choreographer and directors, as an evolving discussion on the themes of normality, insanity, and creative expression.

The narrative builds off the true story of Emma Hauck, a woman who was committed to a psychiatric hospital by her husband in the early 20th century, due to suspected schizophrenia. There, she began to write letters to her husband, begging him to join her. However, as she descended into her madness the letters became increasingly more illegible and condensed to a single phrase repeated hundreds of times in overlapping patterns, such as Sweetheart Come.

We are planning to shoot this film at the Keble O'Reilly Theatre in Week 4 (October 31 - November 6) and release it at the end of November. Watch this space for insights into the production and shoot, interviews, trailer and ticket information.
